MATIAS CATRILEO: May the Fire of Your Struggle Burn Until the Last Piece of Mapuche Territory is Reclaimed!

 
 
Today is the first anniversary of the cowardly murder of our brother, Weichafe Matias Catrileo Quezada; on a January 3rd where everyone was in upheaval by one of the longest and most painful hunger strikes in our history.
They were five Mapuche Political Prisoners that had a clear platform of demands, and were willing to offer their lives to be heard and to inform the world of the genocide that was being committed for a second time on Mapuche Territory. It is within this framework of example and struggle that Matias is fatally wounded while on a peaceful reclamation of their territory by a cowardly murderer, paid on behalf of transnational corporations formed by the rich and powerful; pigs that have taken control of the country, who have robbed and usurped Mapuche territory by shedding blood at gunpoint.

They are the Luchsinger and the Matte families. Despicable people that have initiated systematic repression, hiring police personal specializing in torture and harassment; institutionalizing crime and state terrorism, whether it be in Mapuche territory, in the courts or in any other place where organization and resistance is perceived. All of this with the avail and support of the Michelle Bachelet's neo-social fascist Chilean government.

The jails are clear examples of the unscrupulous persecution that is imposed on those who resist. It is in those jails where we found incredible people, and had the honour of meeting. One can perceive a people in prison, but one that is never overcome. Matias was part of that same struggle. He was a young student as any other, who would want to read these words we write with so much pain. At 22 years old, he was full of hope and dreams. He was an example to follow. He was dignity, identity, he was territory. A constructor of his people. He was part of that generation of Mapuche youth that decided to reconstruct their history once and for all.

This legacy is to follow and forms part of the future, to reach the real liberation of the Mapuche Nation, and someday not too far from now, the reclamation of all stolen territories from end to end of our American continent.
