Violent Police Attack against Mapuche Community of Chequenco

The Mapuche Community Newen Mapu José Millacheo, of the area of Ercilla informs the national and international community the following:

On the mourning of Friday, July 17^th a massive raid was carried out against the community, which lasted from 8 am in the mourning to 6pm in the afternoon. The raid included more than 300 repressive state force officers, undercover police officers as well as paramilitary forces pertaining to forestry corporations.

The raid affected all the households of the community; at no time was the injunction order presented, nor did they ask for someone specific. In all our households, our families were pointed at with guns, including women and children, having some of our possessions destroyed and having tear gas shot inside, while shooting shots into the air.

All of this with absolutely no motive; there were no arrests; however a few were injured due to the beatings. At the end of the raid, a bus of police officers toppled over within our community, hopefully injuring a few of these.

There is no doubt that the illegal raid, sponsored by the Michelle Bachelet social-fascist government and the various forestry corporations seek to intimidate and cause fear within our community, clearly indicating the alliance between the repressive forces and paramilitary.

Unto all of this, we make clear that we will not stop the legitimate struggle for our territory and we will continue advancing in the struggle for the territorial control of our Wallmapu, resisting the capitalism that seeks to exterminate us as a Mapuche Nation.
