Public Statement
Y.O.U. - Young Onkwehonwe United
In Support of the Mapuche Political Prisoners of CHOQUE & All the Mapuche Political Prisoners!
In solidarity with the Women's Coordinating Committee Chile-Canada and especially with our Mapuche brothers and sisters is what is now known as "Chile", Young Onkwehonwe United (Y.O.U.) answers their international call for support on September 11, 2009 and stands here in Toronto to protest the treatment of Onkwehonwe (Indigenous) peoples in "Chile", in "Canada", and throughout the world.
We have heard the cries of the sovereign Mapuche Nation & peoples in Choque & other communities in conflict, and we as Onkwehonwe youth confirm that the murders, unlawful imprisonment, torture, and rejection of the nation-to-nation treaties and Indigenous rights of the many Mapuche youth by the state of Chile is unacceptable and we demand its halt immediately! The fact that this disgusting reality exists for anyone in a supposedly 'democratic' world - a world that has agreed to and passed the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples - is preposterous and must change.
However, this type of treatment of Onkwehonwe (Indigenous) peoples is unfortunately found not only in Chile but also in Canada. Our Haudenosaunee people and especially youth from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory face some of the same treatment from Canada: not only is our land being illegally occupied by the Canadian state, our nation-to-nation treaties (the Gaswentha, or Two Row Wampum, the Silver Covenant Chain, the Haldimand Proclamation of 1781) being ignored, and our indigenous rights being denied, but those Haudenosaunee people that are standing up for their rights are also being illegally charged and harassed by Canadian police.
The similarities between the struggles of the Mapuche People and the Onkwehonwe peoples, specifically the Haudenosaunee in 'Canada' is indisputable. However, the time has come to stop talking about these similarities and situations and start doing something!
We as Young Onwkehonwe United ARE the future generations and therefore we have the responsibility of changing the realities we face before it is too late. Therefore, we extend our hand and unite our struggles to support one another during our times of need. We hope that all other Onkwehonwe organizations, peoples and especially nations will do the same.
Our hearts, prayers, thoughts and positive energy goes out to the Mapuche Political Prisoners of Choque: Hector Llaitul, Ramon Llanquileo, Jose Hueneche, Luis Menares, Jonathan Huillical, Cesar, Nolberto Parra and all Mapuche Political Prisoners in 'Chile'. We stand besides you. Nia:wen Kowa (thank you very much) for all you have done for the coming faces.
FREEDOM FOR THE MAPUCHE POLITICAL PRISONERS OF CHOQUE AND ALL THE MAPUCHE POLITICAL PRISONERS!
STOP THE TORTURE, RAIDS, AND MURDER OF THE MAPUCHE PEOPLE!
TOWARDS THE NATIONAL LIBERATION OF THE MAPUCHE NATION!
