Mapuche Youth Murdered by Chilean Police + rally (reminder)‏

Hasta Siempre - "Peñi" Matias Catrileo - Murdered by Chilean National Police : The Chilean State continues to apply its most visible hand: repression and bullets.

This mourning, the Chilean National Police once again split blood on the autonomous Mapuche struggle, marking the fifth anniversary of the death of 17 year-old Alex Lemun, who was then killed by Prefect Marco Treuer while reclaiming lands owned by Mininco Forestry Incorporate in Ercilla (southern Chile). Matías Valentin Catrileo Quezada, agronomy student of the "Universidad de la Frontera," was shot down this mourning by a cowardly bullet from a Special Forces officer of the National Police Force [GOPE] (apparently in the lung, according to the news distributed by Radio Bio Bio), while reclaiming the Santa Margarita landed estate together with 30 other Mapuche youth, legal property of ranch owner Jorge Luchsinger.

At this time, the body of Matías Catrileo is in the school of "la Roca", located in the community of Yeupeco (in the township of Vilcún) 18 km south east of Temuco. As usual, the police are silent. Interior Minister Felipe Harboe says there is no official information that guarantees that the raid took the life of Matías (they were shot with UZI sub-machine-guns). And they will continue to do this. Meanwhile, the Mapuche community members have said they will not give in the body until a proper autopsy is guaranteed, which will undoubtedly will make the State's bullets responsible.

From now, we announce that this event continues to affirm the declaration of war that the Chilean government has made unto the autonomous Mapuche movement. Matías was only 22 years old. Full of hope and dreamed for the liberation of his people. He fell with his head held high, for which we stretch our most sincere homage from here. And as the ancient peoples say, when a "colihue" [flower] falls, ten more will be reborn... And you Matías, are a colihue.....
